You can add Carlos Peguero to the list of players on the mix for an outfield spot for the Texas Rangers this season.

Peguero, who hit 30 home runs for the Kansas City Triple-A team last year, signed a minor-league deal with the Rangers that includes an invite to spring training.

Peguero, 27, made the majority of his starts in 2014 in left field. The Rangers aren't set on a starting left fielder right now, with Ryan Rua, Michael Choice, Jake Smolinski and Mitch Moreland all in the mix.

Peguero has had brief stints in the majors in each of the last four seasons. He had six homers in 143 at-bats for Seattle in 2011 but has just 71 at-bats in the majors in the last three seasons. Last season for Omaha he hit .266 and his 30 homers came in just 104 games. He led the Pacific Coast League by averaging a homer every 12.27 at-bats and finished second in the league in homers.

Briefly

• The Rangers also finalized their staff of minor-league coordinators. Casey Candaele has been promoted to field coordinator after four seasons as the infield and baserunning instructor. Josue Perez is the hitting coordinator, Chris Briones the catching coordinator, Bruce Hines the baserunning coordinator and Dwayne Murphy is the new assistant hitting/outfield coordinator.

• The Rangers signed seven players to minor-league deals, including infielder Guilder Rodriguez. The club also signed infielders Edwin Garcia and J.T. Wise, right-handers Kyle Lotzkar and Francisco Mendoza, left-hander Chris James and catcher Kevin Torres.

• Former Rangers starters Rick Helling has been named the winner of the Mark Holtz Alumni Award and former TCU star Brandon Finnegan is the Texas Professional Player of the Year. Both will be honored at the Rangers awards dinner Jan. 23 at the Omni Dallas Hotel.
