Rangers release Manny Ramirez
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Manny Ramirez era with the Texas Rangers is over before it got a chance to begin.
The club released the designated hitter from Triple A Round Rock Tuesday.
"Based on our evaluation there was not a spot for Manny on the club at this time," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "We released him so he could pursue other opportunities if he so chooses."
Ramirez did not ask for his release. He had three homers in 30 games with Round Rock, but all three came in his with games with the Express. He batted .259 with 13 RBI.
The Rangers signed Ramirez, 41, to a minor-league deal July 4 after he asked for his release from playing in Taiwan. Daniels said he was signed without any guarantees but the club wanted to see if he could still contribute at the big-league level.
