The Texas Rangers added some catching insurance by signing veteran Koyie Hill to a minor-league contract.

Hill was assigned to Round Rock and will handle the duties that Luis Martinez had. Martinez was called up by the Rangers to take the roster spot of the injured Mike Napoli. Napoli is on the disabled list with a strained quad.

Hill has played in 313 games in the majors, most recently with the Chicago Cubs earlier this season. He was released by Washington earlier this month after playing in 31 games in Triple A. He was hitting just .163 for Syracuse.
