ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton has been released from an area hospital and has returned home.

Hamilton, who went to the hospital Friday because of an intestinal virus, is expected to return to the team Sunday and work out. He will not play in Sunday’s series finale against the Houston Astros.

Hamilton is expected to fly with the team to San Diego on Sunday night. The Rangers begin a three-game series with the Padres on Monday.

Hamilton left Thursday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks early with an upset stomach. The club said Hamilton caught the virus from a family member and his illness is not related to any of the other stomach problems that have plagued several players over the past month.
