SEATTLE (AP) -- The Texas Rangers have acquired outfielder Joe Benson on a waiver claim from the Minnesota Twins, and optioned him to Double-A Frisco.

Texas made room for Benson on its 40-man roster by transferring left-hander Matt Harrison from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.

Harrison, the team's opening day starter, has had two operations on his back since going on the DL in early April with an inflamed nerve in his lower back. He isn't expected back before the All-Star break.

Benson was hitting .192 with one homer in 42 games for Triple-A Rochester. His only major league action came in 2011 with the Twins, when he hit .239 in 21 games.
