ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers fans celebrated Independence Day early under the stars at Globe Life Park on Thursday.

More than 1,200 from across the state came out to the ballpark with blankets and pillows on a beautiful summer evening in Arlington and watched the Rangers take on the Orioles on the big screen.

The Rangers didn't come out on top on a rainy day in Baltimore, but that didn't dampen the mood back in Texas.

Fans jumped at the opportunity to camp out where their favorite team plays.

"We love the Rangers," said Rachael Wilkinson, of Arlington. "It's my dream to just be out on the field."

The event fell on one young Rangers fan's birthday, and he wouldn't have wanted to celebrate it any other way.

"My son wanted the sleepover as his birthday present," said Orlando Navarro, whose son turned 9 years old on Thursday.

"I think it's great we get to bring the fans together and support the team even though the Rangers aren't playing at home," FOX Sports Southwest Girl Liddy said. "It's like a game day experience. It's a great way for families to come out and celebrate the Fourth of July."
