The Texas Rangers removed catcher Chris Gimenez from the paternity leave list and designated him for assignment.

Texas now has 10 days to trade, release or outright Gimenez to the minors.

Texas put Gimenez on the paternity leave list Monday and that move cleared a roster spot for Mike Carp. Texas will likely have to make another roster move soon as catcher Geovany Soto is expected to be activated for Friday's series in Houston.

Gimenez has served as the primary catcher for Yu Darvish with Soto spending most of the season on the disabled list. He's batting .262 with 11 RBI. He was also called upon to pitch an inning July 10 against the Los Angeles Angels. He pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.
