SURPRISE, Ariz. — Texas Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz was sent to a local hospital Friday morning due to discomfort in his chest.
Team doctors initially determined it was a muscle strain near his chest, but Cruz was sent to Del Webb Medical Center in Surprise for further examination.
A high-ranking Rangers source told FOXSportsSouthwest.com that Cruz "should be fine" and that the team was just waiting for results on a battery of tests. The Rangers planned to issue an update on Cruz later Friday.
Cruz's name showed up on a list at an anti-aging clinic in Miami, according to a report in the Miami New Times, and Major-League Baseball continues to investigate the situation. He was set to leave the Rangers this weekend to join the Dominican Republic team in the World Baseball Classic.
On Friday, the Rangers released a statement that Cruz underwent a full battery of tests and all results were negative and is expected to be released after completion of a stress test.
Cruz could resume baseball activities on Saturday.
Cruz has deferred all questions regarding the Miami clinic to his attorney during spring training. He's leading the team with 5 RBI and has featured a more exaggerated leg kick.
