ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has no damage in his left hamstring, the team said. An MRI revealed only inflammation in the area.
Beltre will not play for the Rangers in the series opener Monday against the New York Yankees, but manager Ron Washington did not rule him out for the remainder of the series.
"The hamstring's fine," Washington said. "He's going to work out today. That's good news. If everything works out tonight, there's a possibility you might see him."
The Rangers started Michael Young at third base Monday. Beltre left the first game of a doubleheader Saturday with what was thought to be a left hamstring strain.
Beltre took grounders at third base during batting practice Monday and also took batting practice.
"It's not bad," Beltre said.
Beltre said he believes he'll be ready to play on the six-game homestand.
Beltre is hitting. 304 with two home runs and seven RBI in 14 games.
