The Texas Rangers avoided arbitration with first baseman Mitch Moreland, agreeing to a $2.65-million deal for the 2014 season.

Moreland had been scheduled for an arbitration hearing next week. The Rangers haven't had a player go to arbitration since Lee Stevens in 2000.

When the sides exchanged salary figures last month, Moreland was seeking $3.25 million and the club was offering $2.025 million.

Moreland hit .232 in 2013 and set career highs in home runs (23) and RBI (60).
