Rangers aren't promoting Gallo yet
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Joey Gallo and his 17 home runs aren't going to be in Frisco when the Roughriders begin a homestand next week.
This summer isn't out of the question though.
Gallo, who leads all of pro baseball in homers after his second three-homer game Friday night for Class A Myrtle Beach, has made talk of a possible promotion to Double A reality but it's not coming right now.
"He's forced the conversation on some level but nothing immediate," general manager Jon Daniels said. "We promoted a couple of the relievers, there were three or four guys that moved at the same time. I think June is more likely as far as other moves in the system as far as bigger promotions."
Gallo, 20, is hitting .345 for the Pelicans with 37 RBI and a whopping 1.242 OPS. He's also cut down on his strikeouts, with 43 in 139 at-bats.
"He's doing great and more so than just the power," Daniels said. "I think he's really made some strides defensively and with his approach, plate coverage. The day we signed him he had as much power as anyone in the game, just a natural gift. But he's really made some strides in other areas and obviously the results speak for themselves."
