Texas Rangers reliever Mike Adams, who will be a free agent, will undergo surgery for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome next Thursday in Dallas.
Dr. Greg Pearl will perform the surgery.
Adams missed the final five games of the season because of what was thought to be a mild neck strain. He was diagnosed with TOS Sept. 30.
Adams went 5-3 with a 3.27 ERA for the Rangers and ranked fifth in the AL with 27 holds. He allowed a career-high 56 hits and matched his career high in runs allowed with 21, including three homers in his final appearance of the season.
Adams said he was experiencing symptoms consistent with TOS for much of the season. TOS is caused by a rib putting pressure on a nerve causing numbness and tingling in the hand and arm.
The Rangers have a long history of players having TOS, including Matt Harrison, Hank Blalock and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Adams is expected to be fully recovered by spring training.
In other Texas surgery news, Harrison had Lasik surgery Thursday and Mike Napoli will have Lasik next week.
