The Texas Rangers made a series of moves Friday including designating outfielder Jake Smolinski for assignment.

Smolinki was on the Opening Day roster and now the Rangers have 10 days to trade, release or outright Smolinski.

The Rangers did add another Opening Day outfielder to take Smolinski's spot on the roster, bringing Ryan Rua of the disabled list and inserting him in the lineup in left field Friday night. Rua has been out since suffering a fracture in his right heel in the home opener against Houston in April.

The club also sent right-hander Anthony Ranaudo back to Triple A after his stellar spot start Thursday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ranaudo worked 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a 1-0 loss.

Taking Ranaudo's spot was Alex Claudio, who now gives Texas three left-handers in the bullpen. This is Claudio's second stint with the Rangers as had a 2.63 ERA in 16 games with the Rangers before getting sent to Triple-A Round Rock June 1.
