March 7 will forever serve as an anniversary for both Randall Cobb and his University of Kentucky quarterback Morgan Newton: for Newton, his wedding day and for Cobb, his big payday.

Cobb and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, flirted with some other NFL teams once the dynamic wideout became a free agent and they fielded multiple offers. Negotiations picked up on Friday, but Cobb also had some other business to attend to as one of Newton's six groomsmen in Lexington, Kentucky.

Cobb disappeared after the wedding rehearsal Friday night, then during the rehearsal dinner and again on Saturday, right after Morgan and Laura Newton exchanged vows as man and wife, according to Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin

"I got the call right after we finished taking pictures. We were getting ready to leave," Cobb said. "I walked outside the church and I was able to finish it."

Ultimately, Cobb wanted to return to Green Bay and he took a slight hometown discount.

“Saturday morning, I told Jimmy to get it done. I was scared,” Cobb said. “No lie. I didn’t know if Green Bay had given up on me or what, since we hadn’t heard from them in two weeks, since their last offer. I was nervous. I said, ‘Get it done. Whatever I have to do to get back to Green Bay, just make it happen.’"

It must be nice to storm a wedding reception dance floor after finalizing a deal of that magnitude.

On Monday, Cobb officially inked the 4-year, $40 million contract. He may have been able to earn an extra few million elsewhere, but what's the cost of catching passes from a quarterback not named Aaron Rodgers?

"Safe to say," Cobb joked, "I'll never forget their wedding day."
