ST. LOUIS — Excitement? Stress? Whatever the reason, the St. Louis Rams’ 3-2 start resulted in a trip to the hospital for one key franchise figure.
Kevin Demoff, the Rams' executive vice president of football operations and chief operating officer, fainted at Rams Park on Friday afternoon and was transported to a nearby facility for precautionary reasons. No severe health risks are expected.
“I guess fainting the day after going over .500 isn’t exactly acting like you’ve been there before,” Demoff (@kdemoff) tweeted.
St. Louis has enjoyed uncommon success this season. After beating the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday, the Rams are above .500 for the first time since owning a 4-3 mark on Nov. 4, 2006. They have defeated their first two NFC West opponents (Seattle Seahawks and Cardinals), and hold a 3-0 record at home.
“Kevin is stable, he’s alert, he’s fine, he’s just undergoing some tests and he’s going to be just fine,” Rams coach Jeff Fisher told reporters. “I don’t have any more to report on that other than he just had an incident in his office and he was taken to the hospital. I spoke with him before he left, and he’s going to be just fine.”
Demoff is in his fourth year in his current role. He works with Fisher and general manager Les Snead to develop the Rams’ plan for signings and player acquisitions. He’s also charged with planning around the NFL’s salary cap and collective bargaining agreement, as well as participating in other business operations.
Demoff, a Los Angeles native, earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Dartmouth College in 1999 and an MBA from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business in 2006. Before joining the Rams, he worked for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2005-08 as a consultant and senior assistant. During his stint in Florida, the Buccaneers won NFC South titles in 2005 and ‘07 and posted winning records in three of his four seasons.
The Rams play next on Oct. 14 on the road against the Miami Dolphins.
