NEW ORLEANS (AP) Only 2 miles from the French Quarter, a professional golf course is rising amid resentment in one of the nation's oldest and largest public parks.

The City Park course has sparked a debate on race, gentrification and changing values 10 years after Hurricane Katrina.

The $13 million course could be hosting the Zurich Classic, a PGA Tour event, by 2020. Boosters say the course could pay for all of the park's maintenance costs.

Opponents say the golf layout is taking away 220 acres of wild space that had been enjoyed by the public. Critics also blast the project because it included the demolition of a nearby public housing complex.
