The Atlanta Falcons led all NFL teams with seven players named to the Pro-Bowl, but what was more impressive than the number of players they had chosen was who two of those players were.
Five of the selections were big-name players, essentially no-brainers:
Defensive end John Abraham is No. 2 in the NFL in sacks with 13.
Matt Ryan has passed for more than 3,000 yards and quarterbacked the team with the best record in the NFC.
Tony Gonzalez is arguably the best player ever to play tight end and is fourth among tight ends in the NFL in receptions.
Wide receiver Roddy White is first in the NFL in receptions (109) and second in the NFL in receiving yards (1,327).
Running back Michael Turner is two seasons removed from being a finalist for the MVP award and ranks second in the NFC in rushing yards (1,304).
It's those last two who put the Falcons over the top (New England had six Pro-Bowlers) that are the most impressive: fullback Ovie Mughelli and kick returner Eric Weems and say the most about the team's 12-3 season.
Mughelli plays a position that, in today's NFL, has become virtually a sixth offensive lineman in the backfield. Mughelli didn't make the Pro-Bowl because of his 28 yards on 11 carries and his 13 receptions for 126 yards and one receiving touchdown.
He made it because he is acknowledged as a 6-foot-1, 250-pound crusher of a lead blocker
