Former Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder was eager to return to the Rangers' lineup, but not necessarily because he was excited for the four-game reunion in Detroit.
"I don't give a f-- about the Detroit series," Fielder told reporters Tuesday. "I just want to get back."
Fielder will not travel with the Rangers to Detroit, though, and is likely to miss additional games.
Fielder was out of Texas' lineup Wednesday for the fourth game in a row.
The first baseman had played in 547 consecutive games before receiving an injection Saturday to alleviate pain from a herniated disc in his neck.
Rangers manager Ron Washington said, "(Fielder) feels normal, but he felt normal yesterday until he swung a bat."
A team spokesman said Fielder would remain behind to see Dr. Drew Dossett Friday. "Depending on what happens (Friday), he might go to Detroit after that."
Fielder hitting .247 with three homers and 16 RBIs so far this season.
He played for the Tigers for two seasons, and was traded to the Rangers along with $30 million for second baseman Ian Kinsler following the 2013 season.
Detroit's four-game series with Texas begins Thursday.
