VIERA, Fla. -- David Price is not in midseason form yet but he's not expecting to be, nor is he expected to be.

Price made his second spring start Wednesday, a 9-2 loss to the Washington Nationals.

Price was scheduled to go three innings but gave up four runs on four hits while walking two and striking out three in two innings.

"He obviously wasn't on his game," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "If he was, you wouldn't have seen what happened in those two innings. But it's just spring training and I'm not even remotely concerned about it."

Price threw 54 pitches, 32 for strikes.

"I threw a lot of pitches," Price said. "I definitely got my work in. I'm fine. I feel good mentally, physically -- it's just part of it."

Price said in his first three spring starts, he's far more concerned with his body feeling good both during and the day after he pitches.

"I've just got to get ahead more and attack that strike zone," Price said. "And just get back to throwing the baseball and relying on my defense."

Luke Putkonen, Tom Gorzelanny and Kyle Ryan all threw scoreless innings.

There was not a lot of offense to speak of but Anthony Gose once again made things happen with his speed.

In the third inning, Gose doubled, stole third base (his fourth stolen base of the spring) and scored on Rajai Davis' sacrifice fly.

Gose also had a nice running catch on Tyler Moore to end the first inning.
