OPENING TIP

Finally, for the Cavaliers, the preseason has reached its end. Well, it will after tonight’s game at Charlotte. So what have we learned about the Cavs so far? They have a nice collection of talent, some important new vets and appear to have made strides offensively and defensively. Tonight, the lessons continue. Then, the real thing begins.

• Waiters, who missed the previous two preseason games, is listed as probable for Thursday. Tyler Zeller (appendectomy), C.J. Miles (leg), Sergey Karasev (ankle), Carrick Felix (hernia) and Andrew Bynum (knee) are listed as out.

• Over the previous two games, Thompson is averaging 16 points and 15 rebounds, and shooting 58 percent from the floor.

• Meanwhile, backup center Henry Sims is shooting 78 percent from the floor over the previous six games.

• The Bobcats defeated the Cavs a couple weeks back in Canton, Ohio.

• Bobcats assistant coach Mark Price holds Cavs franchise records for 3-pointers made (802), assists (4,206) and free-throw percentage (.906).

• The Cavs open the season Wednesday at home vs. the Brooklyn Nets.
