Plenty of Tech-nical connections between OU and Red Raiders

We all know Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was a walk-on at Texas Tech before he got the starting job with the Sooners.

And most of us know Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley  was a former walk-on and coach at Tech, too.

But there are a lot more connections from Tech to Oklahoma. The teams will play Saturday in Norman, Okla.

OU offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh played at Iowa Wesleyan and then jaws hired by Mike Leach to come be a graduate assistant coach with the Red Raiders. Bedenbaugh went on to become Tech's running backs coach and the offensive line coach.

Dennis Simmons came to Oklahoma from Mike Leach's staff at Washington State as the Sooners receiving coach, but before he got to Washington State, Simmons was on staff for 10 seasons at Tech.

"We all grew up under coach Leach," Bedenbaugh said to The Oklahoman.

Of course, Leach was able to get the Tech job after spending a season as OU's offensive coordinator under Bob Stoops.

"We've talked about those days when we were at Tech," Riley said to The Oklahoman. "We've all played against our friends and coached against our friends. It won't be much different for us."
