Who cares? At this year’s trading deadline, the best offensive acquisition is a pitcher.
Ironically, the teams that could use David Price the most are the teams that lost or need offense. Look at the Cardinals, who are minus Yadi’s production and fighting through a rough Allen Craig season, or the Mariners, dead last in the AL in wOBA.
Price is unquestionably the biggest difference-maker on the market. All the clubs could use a stud pitcher, but the aforementioned teams, and others in similar situations, would be better served to acquire him over a decent bat. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that you score more than you allow; it doesn’t matter how you get there. And there simply isn’t an available hitter with Price’s level of impact.
Instead of forcing the bat, get the obvious and dependable difference-maker on the mound for not just one, but two pennant races.
