Cavaliers acting general manager David Griffin has drawn interest from the Pistons as a potential candidate for the available president of basketball operations job, sources familiar with the search told FOX Sports Ohio on Saturday.
USA Today first reported the Pistons' interest in Griffin.
The Pistons decided not to renew the contract of former president Joe Dumars, who ran the basketball operations for 14 seasons.
Griffin is said to be among a number of candidates for the position. He became the Cavs' acting GM in early February, when owner Dan Gilbert fired Chris Grant. Griffin had been an assistant GM under Grant.
The Cavs won just 16 of their first 49 games, but went 17-16 after Griffin took over.
Along with Griffin, names linked to the Pistons include NBA senior vice president of basketball operations Kiki Vandeweghe and Celtics assistant GM Mike Zarren.
Former NBA forward and Pistons star Grant Hill was also mentioned by USA Today as a potential replacement for Dumars. But The Detroit News, citing sources close to Hill, reported that he is not seeking an executive role.
Meanwhile, Dumars has been retained as an advisor by the Pistons, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press. Despite speculation, Dumars is not interested in a front-office position with the Cavs, sources have said.
Griffin is scheduled to meet with Cleveland reporters Tuesday morning.
