Penn State leads NCAA wrestling championships

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Three-time defending champion Penn State leads the NCAA wrestling championships after the first day of completion Thursday.

Five Nittany Lions won their first two matches and advanced to Friday morning's quarterfinals. All 10 of Penn State's wrestlers are still alive to score points.

Penn State's most surprising loss on Thursday came at 197 pounds. No. 3 seed Morgan McIntosh lost to No. 14 seed Chris Penny of Virginia Tech, 3-2, in the evening session.

Penn State has 26.5 points. Minnesota and Oklahoma State are tied for second with 21.5 points and Iowa and Oklahoma are tied for fourth with 20.5.

Minnesota and Iowa are tied for the most quarterfinalists with six. Oklahoma State has five and Oklahoma has four.
