Penalties hurt Gophers in 4-0 loss to North Dakota
The Minnesota Gophers couldn’t complete a sweep in Grand Forks, losing 4-0 to their rival North Dakota on Saturday evening.
Minnesota, which beat the Fighting Hawks 2-1 Friday, fell behind 3-0 after North Dakota scored a trio of goals after a five-minute major penalty was handed out to senior defenseman Jack Glover.
The Gophers couldn't muster any offense to get back in the game, despite owning a 22-18 advantage in shots on goal.
Goaltender Eric Schierhorn stopped 14 Fighting Hawks shots.
It was North Dakota's first win over the Gophers since March 2012, as Minnesota had won the last seven matchups between the rival programs.
Gophers drop to 3-3 overall after the loss. They return to Minnesota to host Clarkson for a weekend series Oct. 27-28 at the 3M Arena at Mariucci.
