Patriots release Kyle Love after diabetes diagnosis
You want to make it with the Patriots? Be on time, be prepared ... and for heaven's sakes, don't get sick! Kyle Love found out the hard way, as New England released the defensive tackle shortly after he was diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes. Diabetes?!!
Seriously, did the Patriots release Love because of his illness. His agent, Richard Kopelman, seems to think so. “Naturally, we are disappointed that the Patriots decided to part ways with Kyle,” Kopelman said via Pro Football Talk. “Especially in light of the fact that a number of elite, professional athletes with diabetes – both Type 1, which is known to be far more difficult to manage than Type 2 diabetes – have had very successful careers in professional football, hockey, baseball, and basketball.” Those are heady charges, sir. But compelling, nonetheless. To be fair, the Patriots do have a logjam at defensive tackle, having signed Tommy Kelly in free agency and bringing in CFL standout Armond Armstead. But why not give Love a chance to compete for a job. Why release him in Mid-May? Odd timing, right? Regardless, Love's agent has a positive outlook about Love's future. “Having consulted with leading authorities on the effects of Type 2 diabetes, we have every reason to believe that Kyle will, in the immediate future, be at 100 percent, and will be prepared to participate in training camp in a couple of months,” Kopelman said. We here at Laces Out are rooting for Kyle Love, who came out of nowhere to win a roster spot as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He had seen his playing time increase every year, until this latest road block. Good luck, Kyle. You know who else is rooting for you? Yeah, that's right ... Wilford Brimley!
