SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Florida Panthers reassigned goaltender Dan Ellis to the San Antonio Rampage (AHL), the team announced Thursday night.

When both starter Roberto Luongo and backup Al Montoya went down with injuries, Ellis played an integral role in keeping Florida's playoff hopes alive as the team traversed a tumultuous March schedule.

Ellis, 34, posted a 4-3-1 record with a 2.35 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in eight starts. He recorded his first shutout as a Panther on March 14 when he stopped all 27 shots he faced in a 2-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Ellis has appeared in 36 games with San Antonio this season, owning a 22-11-3 record with two shutouts.

Montoya, who has been out of action for over a month while recovering from a groin injury, will back up Luongo when the Panthers host the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.
