Panthers' Jonathan Huberdeau named NHL's Third Star of the week

Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau was named the NHL's Third Star for the week ending Jan. 11, the league announced Monday.

Huberdeau, 21, shared second in NHL scoring for the week with five points (3 goals, 2 assists) in three games to help the Panthers garner a perfect 3-0-0 record and move within one point of the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Recording his first three-point game since his rookie season, Huberdeau led the Panthers with two goals and three points in a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 8.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 draft, Huberdeau has recorded 7 goals and 22 points in 37 games with Florida this season.

St. Louis Blues forward David Backes (first star) and Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov (second star) were also honored.
