Panthers agree to 1-year, 2-way deals with Brett Olson, Greg Zanon
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with C Brett Olson and D Greg Zanon on one-year, two-way contracts.
Olson, 27, has appeared in 145 career American Hockey League games for Abbotsford (2012-2014) recording 62 points (25-37-62) and 69 PIM. During the 2013-2014 season, Olson registered 44 points (17-27-44) in 75 games while adding one goal in four playoff contests.
The Superior, Wisconsin native played four seasons (2008-2012) for Michigan Technological University (WCHA) where he served as team captain for his senior season (2011-2012) and twice earned WCHA All-Academic Team honors (2010-2012).
Zanon, 34, has appeared in 493 career National Hockey League games for Nashville (2005-2009), Minnesota (2009-2012), Boston (2011-2012) and Colorado (2012-2013) registering 62 points (12-50-62) and 230 PIM. He appeared in 24 games with San Antonio (American Hockey League) during the 2013-2014 season, serving as the club's alternate captain, recording four assists and 34 PIM.
The Burnaby, British Columbia native played four seasons (1999-2003) for the University of Nebraska-Omaha (CCHA) and was named to the CCHA First All-Star Team in 2001. Zanon was drafted by Ottawa in the fifth round (156th overall) in the 2000 NHL Draft.
