SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today announced their 2013 Spring Training schedule, in what will be the club’s 20th spring in Peoria, Ariz.
Padres pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to Peoria on Tuesday, February 12, with their first workout scheduled for Wednesday, February 13. Position players are scheduled to report on Friday, February 15, with the club’s first full-squad workout on Saturday, February 16. The team will begin its 37-game spring schedule with the annual charity game on Friday, February 22 against the Seattle Mariners at the Peoria Sports Complex. On March 14, the Padres will host a World Baseball Classic semi-finalist in an exhibition game prior to the WBC finals in San Francisco.
Ten games on the spring schedule will be televised live locally by FOX Sports San Diego, including key division match-ups against the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants. In addition, Broadcast Company of the Americas will broadcast at least 15 games on either XX 1090 or ESPN Radio 1700.
The Padres will also play two exhibition games against the Texas Rangers. The games will be played on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. “Big League Weekend” brings professional baseball to the Alamodome for the first time, giving fans of the Padres’ Double-A affiliate the opportunity to see their favorite former Missions in Major League action. Both games will be part of FOX Sports San Diego’s spring lineup. The club will then head to New York to open the regular season against the Mets at Citi Field on Monday, April 1. Following a six-game road trip through New York and Colorado, the Padres return to San Diego for their home opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, April 9.
