In what is yet another indication that the Green Bay Packers are becoming — or have already become — America's team, residents from the state of Oregon chose the Packers as their favorite NFL team.
Despite living as far as 2,000 miles away from Lambeau Field, Oregon residents in the latest Public Policy Polling release still prefer the Packers over the nearby Seattle Seahawks. It would take less than three hours for many Oregonians to drive to a Seahawks game, yet the Packers still reign supreme.
In the poll, 16 percent chose the Packers as their favorite NFL team, with 15 percent picking the Seahawks for second place. The San Francisco 49ers, whose home games are played less than 400 miles from southern Oregon, came in third place at 10 percent. In fourth place were the Dallas Cowboys, who have commonly been referred to — apparently inaccurately — as America's team. In fact, a Public Policy Polling nationwide poll in December 2011 came up overwhelmingly with the Packers as America's favorite team, getting twice as many votes as the Cowboys at the time.
It probably helps that the Packers have had far more success than the Cowboys in recent years. In February 2011, Green Bay won the Super Bowl. Last season, the Packers had a 15-1 record in the regular season before losing at home in the playoffs to the eventual-champion New York Giants.
When the Packers travel to Seattle for a Monday Night Football game in Week 3 of this upcoming season, it now shouldn't come as a surprise when it feels like a home game for Green Bay.
