GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Well, at least Scott Tolzien now gets his team iPad back.
The Green Bay Packers re-signed Tolzien to a one-year, $1.375 million contract, according to multiple reports Sunday afternoon. With fellow backup Matt Flynn still unsigned as an unrestricted free agent, the Packers appear to have chosen Tolzien as the No. 2 quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers going into the 2015 season.
The Packers officially announced the signing on Monday.
Head coach Mike McCarthy showed his preference toward keeping Tolzien during a side session with writers at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last month.
"Scott, he's already go his pre-CBA offseason program," McCarthy said. "You guys know what he did last year. He went down to (the University of) Wisconsin on Tuesdays; him and Jared (Abbrederis), they've already got their plan on how they're going to do it. I thought it was a pretty good sign that he wanted to be here.
"He asked for his iPad back. Our video guy said, 'Hey, Scott Tolzien wants his iPad.' I said, 'Awesome. Tell him to sign his contract.'"
Despite outplaying Flynn during preseason and training camp, Tolzien was third in line at quarterback this past season. Tolzien was a healthy inactive on the game day roster through Week 16. But, with Rodgers attempting to play through a calf injury, Green Bay kept Tolzien as a third quarterback on its game day roster for Week 17, as well as for both playoff games.
