Pac-12 to prohibit transfers with misconduct history

LAS VEGAS — The Pac-12 CEO Group approved a policy that prohibits transfer athletes who have a history of misconduct from joining a team or receiving athletic aid.

The policy, announced Saturday by the Pac-12's presidents and chancellors, follows a similar one put in place by the SEC last spring.

It prohibits student-athlete transfers from participating if they are ineligible to re-enroll at any of their previous universities because of misconduct.

The policy applies to issues such as assault, harassment and academic fraud. It will not apply to academic performance reasons unrelated to misconduct.

Each Pac-12 university will require its student-athlete transfer applicants to self-disclose whether they are eligible to re-enroll at their prior institution. The schools may create an appeal process for student-athletes who are deemed ineligible by this policy.
