O's Machado appeals suspension
Orioles 3B Manny Machado has received a five-game suspension for a Sunday bat-throwing incident, but will appeal. MASNSports.com reports that the appeal could be heard next week when the O's are in New York. It seems unlikely that Machado's appeal will be successful, so if you own him in a weekly lineup league, think about benching him next week.
On to the rest of the news:
Pirates SP Francisco Liriano left Tuesday's game due to an oblique strain, and a DL stint is likely.
Reds SP Mat Latos is scheduled to make his 2014 debut on Saturday. 1B Joey Votto came off the DL and was in the lineup on Tuesday.
Nationals C Wilson Ramos left Tuesday's game with a tight hamstring, but it doesn't sound serious. Consider him day to day, and lean toward benching him tonight due to the Nats' 10:15 p.m. ET start at San Francisco.
Streaming starters: John Danks and the White Sox got rained out, so the record remains 41-28. Today's pick is Marcus Stroman (owned in 9.3 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the Twins, and Thursday's selection is Seattle's Roenis Elias (20.4 percent owned) versus the Yankees. Stroman's game starts at 12:37 p.m. ET today, so make sure to get him in your lineup early.
Braves OF Justin Upton left Tuesday's game with a strained hamstring, and hopes to be back in the lineup tomorrow.
Blue-chip Marlins SP prospect Andrew Heaney could make his big-league debut as soon as this weekend. In other Marlins' news, 2B Rafael Furcal is close to being activated. The 36-year-old Furcal is injury-prone, but when he plays he's not a bad hitter who will steal some bases and score runs. I wouldn't pick up up in a 12-team mixed league, but beyond that I'd consider it.
Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (oblique) was out of the lineup again last night, and might get one more day off before returning on Thursday.
I'm not sure if anyone besides me still cares, but White Sox RP Nate Jones (back surgery) started throwing earlier this week. I invested quite a bit in Jones this season with the hope of getting some saves, and he's going to get them, dammit! It might not happen until September 20, but still ...
Twins OF Aaron Hicks (shoulder) missed his third straight game on Tuesday, and might be headed for the DL.
The Cubs released Jose Veras? I guess that means he won't reclaim his closer job anytime soon.
SS Jean Segura was dropped to eighth in the Brewers' lineup last night. You can't steal as many bases from there.
Lefty Tyler Matzek (4.05 ERA at Triple A) will make his big-league debut tonight for the Rockies. The 23-year-old was once a big-time prospect, but throwing strikes has always been a challenge for him. Don't expect too much.
See you back here tomorrow morning.
