For the second time this season, the Orlando Magic will lose Glen Davis for an extended period, if not the remainder of the season.
The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Davis will undergo surgery Friday to repair a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot, which he injured in Wednesday night's game against the New York Knicks. He is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks.
In December and early January, Davis missed 11 games with a shoulder injury. The Magic, who were 12-13 at the time, lost 10 straight in his absence.
The hope was that his return to the lineup would spur a resurgence, but the Magic won just once in the past nine games he played.
Nevertheless, Davis had become a team leader and was having the best season of his six-year career, averaging 15.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
“I feel really bad for the guy,” Magic shooting guard J.J. Redick told the Orlando Sentinel after Thursday's practice. “I know he’s had high expectations for himself and for this team this season, and he’s had a rough go of it. I feel bad for him.”
