Omar Vizquel, one the greatest shortstops ever to play the game, will retire at the end of this season.
The 45-year-old Vizquel spoke to NESN.com and broke the news, adding that he wanted to say in baseball under a different career.
"This will be my last year," Vizquel said in Spanish. "I've enjoyed this game a lot, but I think it's time to pursue a new career as a coach or manager, and hopefully I'll get that opportunity in the future."
Vizquel won 11 Gold Gloves, was an All-Star three times, and gave Cleveland Indians fans thrilling play after thrilling play for his entire career on the north coast.
Here's hoping the Indians make a late-season waiver acquisition and bring Vizquel back here. He deserves to retire as an Indian.
