LONDON (AP) British Athletics says Olympic and world long jump champion Greg Rutherford has withdrawn from the World Indoor Championships in Portland next week due to ''a recent chest infection and slight hamstring issue.''
British Athletics performance director Neil Black said on Friday that Rutherford's body ''reacted harder than expected to this week's training'' and that ''he has sensibly decided not to take any risks'' ahead of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in August.
The 29-year-old Rutherford withdrew from the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix and the British Indoor Championships last month.
The World Indoor Championships take place March 17-20.
