Ole Miss defeats top-seeded Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) -- Mike Mayers pitched solid ball into the seventh inning and third-seeded Mississippi defeated top-seeded Texas A&M 6-3 on Saturday night at the College Station Regional.

Mayers (6-3) limited the Aggies to three runs -- two earned -- and four hits, and struck out a career-high nine in 6 1/3 innings. Rebels reliever Brett Huber kept the Aggies to a lone hit over the next two innings, and R.J. Hively closed it out by retiring the final two batters with two runners on.

Mississippi (37-24) scored two runs each in the third, fourth and sixth innings against A&M starter Ross Stripling. Matt Snyder led the Rebels with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the fourth that lifted Mississippi to a 4-2 lead.

Stripling (10-4) took the loss for the Aggies (43-17) after allowing six runs -- five earned -- over 7 2/3 innings.
