For the first time since the University of Oklahoma opened, every student-athlete will be living under the same roof.
And wow, that roof sure is nice.
"It's a game-changer. There's nothing like it," OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said.
Headington Hall, on the corner of Jenkins and Lindsey St. in Norman, right across from Memorial Stadium, officially opened over the weekend.
The $75 million project includes two-and-four bedroom units, a media lounge, common area, study areas, a 75-seat theater and some of the best food on campus. There will also be retail space opening on the first floor in the future.
Overall, 380 students will be housed in Headington Hall, making up 49 percent of its residents. More than 50 percent of the residents are not athletes.
"It will offer the student-athletes and other students who live in Headington Hall an unexcelled place to live, study and create a strong sense of community," OU president David Boren said.
Former running back Adrian Peterson gave $1 million to the athletic department with $500,000 dedicated to the housing facility. Former quarterback Sam Bradford also donated $500,000.
"There's nothing else like it on another campus in America," football coach Bob Stoops said. "Headington Hall is much more than a state-of-the art residence hall. It's a place that generations of Sooners will be able to call home."
