ST. LOUIS (AP) Ohio State carried the momentum of a strong start to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships into the evening session Thursday.
Ohio State leads the team points with 23, followed by Iowa (21), Oklahoma State (19.5), Penn State (18.5), Missouri (18) and Nebraska (18).
The Buckeyes went 5-2 in the second round in front of 18,414 at Scottrade Center and 6-4 for the entire session.
''It's the national tournament, you have some great wins and you have some heart breaking losses,'' Ohio State coach Tom Ryan said. ''We've got a big round tomorrow morning. We have to go 5-0 in the quarterfinals.''
Logan Stieber led Ohio State, following a technical fall win in the first round with a pin of West Virginia's Mike Morales in the second. Stieber is the No. 1 seed at 141 pounds.
At 165, Bo Jordan followed a pin-fall win in the first round with a hard fought 7-2 decision over Cornell's Dylan Palacio.
Nathan Tomasello was dominant at 125. Tomasello, the No. 4 seed, won both of his matches by pin and major decision, respectively.
''A lot of guys got bonus points for us and Logan's just a machine,'' Jordan said. ''Everyone is doing well. We're just trying to put our best wrestlers out there so I'm so happy right now, especially for the team.''
Unseeded Kenny Courts also gave Ohio State a lift at 184. Courts followed an upset of the No. 6 seed in the first round with a 12-8 decision over Davidson's Scott Patrick.
Iowa heads up a log jam of teams chasing Ohio State. Seven teams are within 5.5 points of first.
''We've got a lot of wrestling to do,'' Iowa coach Tom Brands said. ''There's some good and there's some bad. You're wrestling 20 matches today or whatever so there's a lot going through your mind right now. Really what we're doing is getting ready to go tomorrow.''
Thomas Gilman (125) got Iowa going in the second round with an overtime win. Cory Clark (133) followed with a major decision.
The Hawkeyes' heavies capped a strong round. Mike Evans (174) and Sammy Brooks got decisions and Nathan Burak got a major decision.
''Those points are real important. Burak was on the front side,'' Brands said. ''Cory Clark was on the front side getting bonus points and two on the back side and that's what we've got to keep doing.''

- At 125, unseeded Zeke Moisey of West Virginia beat No. 2 Nahshon Garrett of Cornell, 5-2.
- At 133, two lower seeds advanced to face each other in the quarterfinals. No. 12 George DiCamillo of Virginia beat No. 5 Zane Richards of Illinois 6-4 in overtime and No. 13 Cody Brewer of Oklahoma beat No. 4 Johnni DiJulius of Ohio State 9-1.
- At 141, No. 14 Dean Heil of Oklahoma State beat No. 3 Lavion Mayes of Missouri.
- At 149, No. 13 Charles Cobb of Penn beat No. 4 Brandon Sorenson of Iowa 4-3.
- At 165, No. 13 Cooper Moore of Northern Iowa pinned No. 4 Nicholas Sulzer of Virginia.
- At 184, No. 13 Victor Avery of Edinboro outlasted No. 4 Jack Dechow of Old Dominion in double overtime and No. 14 Matthew McCutcheon of Penn State beat No. 3 Blake Stauffer of Arizona State in overtime.
