Ohio State recruiting classes continue growing

Ohio State's hot June on the recruiting trail continued over the past few days with a pair of offensive linemen and a Northeastern Ohio cornerback announcing they will be Buckeyes in the future.

The biggest new verbal commitment -- literally -- is Kevin Feder, a three-star 2015 prospect from New Jersey powerhouse Don Bosco Prep who is listed at 6-8, 300 pounds. Originally a Miami (Fla.) pledge, he flipped to Ohio State on Sunday.

Feder became the 10th OSU verbal for the class of 2015, following No. 9 Denzel Ward, a three-star 2015 cornerback prospect from Nordonia, Ohio, who gave his verbal commitment June 19.

Ward is projected as a cornerback with long arms that make him a good fit in the Buckeyes' new press-heavy pass defense. He committed immediately upon receiving an offer from Meyer after participating in an Ohio State camp. His other offers include Cincinnati, Kentucky, Rutgers, Syracuse and numerous teams from the MAC.

The same day Ward made his announcement, Ohio State picked up its second verbal for the 2016 class in the form of Portsmouth (Ohio) Sciotoville four-star offensive lineman Tyler Gerald, whose other early offers included Virginia Tech. Along with 2015 quarterback prospect Joe Burrows of Athens, Gerald gives Ohio State two recruits from Southeast Ohio in as many years after the Buckeyes totaled only two from the region from 2002-14.

If he signs with the Buckeyes in February, Feder is set to be the fourth Ohio State recruit from New Jersey in three classes. Meyer signed cornerback Eli Apple from Voorhees Eastern in 2013 and wide receiver Noah Brown of Sparta and defensive end Darius Slade of Montclair in 2014.

Ohio State had only three verbal commitments for 2015 entering June but has picked up seven this month.

Another highly regarded prospect could join the class July 2 when four-star linebacker Justin Hilliard of Cincinnati St. Xavier is scheduled to announce his school from a final five of Alabama, Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio State.
