Ohio State QB on Twitter: Classes are pointless
Ohio State freshman quarterback Cardale Jones hasn't taken a snap in a game, but he found a way to make some news Friday morning.
Jones took to Twitter to share his belief that "classes are pointless."
The full tweet, which has since been deleted, as well as Jones' account, is below:
After Ohio State coach Urban Meyer's first official team meeting on Jan. 3, several players tweeted that they were no longer welcome on Twitter. Meyer later said that he did not give the team a Twitter ban, but he had made it clear that they would not be tweeting about team issues.
We don't know Meyer's exact Twitter rules, but we can guess this won't go over well.
Jones, a graduate of Cleveland Glenville High School, was originally a member of Ohio State's 2011 recruiting class but attended Fork Union Military Academy last year.
Coaches have to have little tolerance for Twitter mishaps, and probably have less patience for those goofs by third-string quarterbacks on the eve of the biggest game of the season -- unbeaten Ohio State hosts 4-1 Nebraska on Saturday night.
As part of its NCAA sanctions that include a 2012 postseason ban, Ohio State recently informed the NCAA Committee on Infractions that part of its new compliance efforts is an emphasis on making sure athletes used social media smartly.
Jones went out of his way Friday on Twitter to show that might be an issue worth pursuing further.
