Nowitzki: 'My legs are getting stronger'

Returning from a four-game rest period, Dirk Nowitzki's shot was obviously rusty. But that's to be expected after not seeing game action in over a week.

Most importantly, Nowitzki, who has been working out twice a day to strengthen his legs and injured knee, played 38 minutes Sunday, helping the Mavericks top the rival San Antonio Spurs in overtime, 101-100, at American Airlines Center.

When asked how he felt after playing about five minutes more than his head coach had planned, Nowitzki said he thought it was obvious.

"I moved better. Had a couple of one dribble, two dribble pull-ups which was basically non-existent before I left," he said. "So, yeah, it's coming back. Still had some swelling this week though, but the work load was a lot. I lifted a lot, had two-a days on the court, tried to really push myself. Still had a little swelling in but I think it's going to be OK. My legs are getting stronger, my base is getting stronger so I just got to keep on working."

Nowitzki finished with 13 rebounds and 10 points on 5-of-14 shooting.
