TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Scooter Haggins missed the 2013 season after undergoing knee surgery last summer. But the wide receiver is back at full speed during Florida State's offseason workouts, and the senior could make an impact in the fall.

Haggins has had wrist, shoulder and knee injuries during his college career. But he knows the playbook and should see significant playing time in 2014 as the Seminoles replace receivers like Kenny Shaw and Kelvin Benjamin.

"Scooter to me is running better than he ever has," Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. "Scooter played a lot of ball before he got hurt. You feel good there."

Haggins has 20 career catches for 206 yards.

MORE PRODUCTION FROM O'LEARY?

Tight end Nick O'Leary has seen an increased role in Florida State's offense each of his three seasons. O'Leary went from 12 catches as a freshman to 21 in 2012 and then 33 receptions last season.

Fisher would like to find more ways to get O'Leary the ball.

"O'Leary is going to be a huge part of our offense," Fisher said. "Hopefully he'll go up to that 40-50 range if we can get it there and they (defenses) don't start taking him away."

DAUB CAN'T PRACTICE

Five-star linebacker Kain Daub of Jacksonville enrolled early in hopes of getting to learn the defense this spring.

But Daub hasn't been able to participate in Florida State's offseason conditioning program and will miss spring practice because he hasn't been approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse.

"It's not anything he did academically, it's a clearinghouse issue," Fisher said.

NEW ASSISTANT COACH

When defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt left Florida State for Georgia a week after the Seminoles won the national title in January, Fisher decided to promote linebackers coach Charles Kelly to defensive coordinator. Kelly will now coach defensive backs, and Fisher has hired Bill Miller from the University of Minnesota to coach linebackers.

Miller has been an assistant for 36 years, including stops at Miami (1995-98) as defensive coordinator and Florida (2003-04) as linebackers coach.

"Bill Miller has been a great addition," Fisher said. "He knows everything about the whole system, how we do things. Tremendous recruiter. Got a great reputation recruiting this state. I've gone against him a bunch of times."

OFFSEASON WORKOUTS COMPLETE

Florida State has completed its offseason workouts, what Fisher has called Fourth Quarter Drills. The Seminoles will take time off for spring break and then start up spring practice on March 19.

Fisher said that quarterback Jameis Winston (baseball) and defensive back Jalen Ramsey (track) did not participate in offseason workouts but will not miss football practices this spring.
