HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Derek Thompson threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another to spark North Texas to a 55-14 Conference USA victory over Southern Miss Saturday night.

Running backs Antoinne Jimmerson, Brandin Byrd and Reggie Pegram each scored twice for the Mean Green (5-3, 3-1 C-USA), who won their third consecutive conference game.

Before a homecoming crowd of 23,203, the Golden Eagles (0-7, 0-3) added to the Football Bowl Subdivision's longest active losing streak, dropping their 19th consecutive game. The loss assured Southern Miss back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since the 1933-34 season.

In his first career start, Southern Miss freshman Nick Mullens completed 12 of 31 passes for 210 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. He also lost two fumbles after being sacked.
