NEW YORK (AP) North Slope rallied in the mud to beat Village Warrior by 2 1/2 lengths Sunday in the $100,000 Evening Attire Stakes for older horses at Aqueduct.

Fourth in the early stages, North Slope had a clear path in the lane when the pacesetting Village Warrior drifted extremely wide. The 5-year-old gelding trained Kiaran McLaughlin scooted through the opening, improving to 5 for 20 with his first dirt victory. The previous four wins came on the turf.

Junior Alvarado was aboard for the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.45.

North Slope paid $17.80, $6.20 and $3.40. Village Warrior, part of an entry at 4-5 with fourth-place finisher Micromanage, returned $2.10 and $2.10.
