No. 8 reason to get excited: The emergence of JSerra
Could to the Trinity League be tougher than it's been in previous seasons? Imagine that. Welcome to 2014.
Cellar dwellers no more, JSerra is looking to make some serious noise in what largely is considered the toughest league in the country. There was a time when JSerra was on the schedule during league play and you could put an easy 'W'next to the opposition ... in ink. Those days are a thing of the not-so-distant past.
It might not seem like much, but last season the Lions won a school record two games in Trinity League play and finished a school best 7-3 overall. This makes them No. 8 on our list of "15 Reasons to Get Excited for the 2014 CIF-SS High School Football Season."
The Lions finished last season tied for third place in league play with Orange Lutheran and Servite. But as a result of losing the coin flip, they were the fifth-place team in the league and missed out on an at-large berth in the PAC-5 playoffs.
JSerra will enter the 2014 season as a top-10 team in the state in various polls. They also are a preseason top-50 team in the nation that has hopes of advancing to the playoffs for the first time since the school was founded in 2003.
Could 2014 be the Year of JSerra? In August, at least, it appears history will be made on the San Juan Capistrano campus.
