NMSU nails free throws to hold off South Alabama
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- Bandja Sy had 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds and New Mexico State hit enough free throws down the stretch to hold off South Alabama 58-52 Tuesday night.
The Aggies (5-4), who led by 17 early and by six at the half, held a 42-33 advantage with 11:10 left. However, the Jaguars closed the gap to 54-52 with 2 minutes left.
Tyrone Watson then hit 1 of 2 free throws with 1:28 remaining and Sy got a key steal.
New Mexico State added two free throws by K.C. Ross-Miller, then Sy was 1 of 2 from the line.
Xavier Roberson missed two 3-pointers in the last 9 seconds for the Jaguars (4-4), who saw their two-game winning streak end.
Daniel Mullings scored 13 points and Sim Bhullar added 12 for the Aggies, who have won four of their last five games.
Mychal Ammons led South Alabama with 16 points.
