NMSU comes up just short against Colorado State
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- J.J. Avila scored 29 points, including the game-winning layup in the final seconds, lifting Colorado State to an 85-83 win over New Mexico State on Saturday.
Daniel Bejarano added 11 points and hauled in 15 rebounds, Jon Octeus finished with 15 points and Marcus Holt scored 11 to keep the Rams (6-2) undefeated on their home court this season. Colorado State took advantage of 21 turnovers by the Aggies.
New Mexico State (7-2) trailed by as many as nine points late in the second half before narrowing the gap with a trio of 3-pointers and then tying the game at 83 on a pair of free throws by Daniel Mullings with 7 seconds left. Colorado State then hit the game-winning layup, snapping New Mexico State's seven-game win streak.
Mullings led the Aggies with 24 points and nine assists, while DK Eldridge added 23 points.
