Several Green Bay Packers players blasted the NFL and its replacement referees on Twitter after the team's controversial Monday night loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but those players will not be fined by the NFL, according to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.
"No, we are not looking into that," he told FOXSportsWisconsin.com Wednesday morning.
Several of the tweets – most notably the ones authored by offensive linemen T.J. Lang and Josh Sitton and tight end Jermichael Finley – were laced with profanity, but the league has never fined a player for comments made on social media outside of its time restrictions before and after games. That policy will stand despite the creative language.
The Packers' 14-12 loss on a last-second miscalled touchdown catch by Seattle's Golden Tate was the subject of criticism on and off Twitter by players from around the NFL late Monday and throughout Tuesday. Even the usually fine-happy NFL must recognize that policing the situation – and any future such reactions – would be impossible.
